NHS/third-sector video work

Videos produced for use by professional organisations in the health and social care sector, including the NHS and Healthwatch.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic turned our lives upside-down early in 2020, access to services at GP practices has been one of the biggest concerns members of the public have shared with Healthwatch. Satisfaction with GP services is falling fast, and one of the most commonly asked questions is “when are things getting back to normal?”.

I asked local GPs in Bradford district to respond to common themes from public feedback about access to GP practices, to give an insight into their working environment and to help our communities get the best out of their local services.

I produced three full-length videos and a range of social media edits which will play a part in a planned multimedia awareness campaign by Bradford District and Craven Health and Care Partnership.

Regular video news updates from Healthwatch Bradford and District are a key part of our communications schedule, alongside monthly e-newsletters and daily activity across a range of digital platforms. We like to film at a variety of locations across the district, providing a range of challenges around shooting and editing including inadvertently capturing a section of a shop sign which says something rude right next to the subject’s head (ALWAYS get plenty of b-roll to drop in over the audio of unusable footage!) and noise while working next to Five Rise Locks in Bingley, Yorkshire’s answer to the Niagara Falls (the lapel mic coped admirably).

These video updates have proved an effective tool for growing our profile within our local health and care system and have attracted positive feedback from partners.

I worked with a senior GP to plan and shoot this film to highlight the range of challenges a doctor faces during the course of the working day amid the COVID-19 pandemic. It has been seen by thousands of people across YouTube and social media, with many commenters saying they had not been aware of all the unseen work done by primary care staff in a typical day.

I storyboarded, shot and edited this video to spearhead a public NHS awareness campaign about access to GPs during the COVID-19 pandemic. Several other smaller videos on specific topics were produced from the raw material to be used over the course of the campaign, which also attracted media coverage from BBC Look North, ITV Calendar, BBC Radio York and Greatest Hits Radio.

This information video about the opening of the local NHS COVID-19 vaccination hub in North Yorkshire was shared many times on social media, earning many thousands of views.

This video about a population health management project in Selby was produced by recording Teams interviews with about a dozen participants and editing nearly an hour of footage down to just over six minutes to capture the key themes and findings.
